Full Summary

The video creator, Alex Connelly, discusses his past struggles with business growth, feeling stuck doing tasks he wasn't good at and preventing progress. He realized that to succeed, he needed to focus on working *on* his business, not just *in* it. This meant delegating essential tasks like graphic design and editing, which he could do but wasn't proficient in, to free up his time for more strategic activities like sales and capital acquisition.

To address this, Alex hired two virtual assistants, Zai and Thao, from the Philippines. He was immediately impressed by their positive attitude, encouragement, and understanding of his needs, describing them as 'employees and cheerleaders.' He notes their cultural familiarity and positive dynamic, which he attributes partly to historical US-Philippine relations, creating a pleasant and productive working environment.

Alex highlights the affordability of hiring virtual assistants from the Philippines as a significant benefit for small business owners, allowing them to compensate staff adequately. He is now exploring expanding their roles to full-time work as capital increases, seeing this as a long-term positive for the business. He emphasizes that combining efforts with a team, even with just three members, exponentially increases available work hours and productivity compared to working alone.

Struggles with Business Growth

0:14 Hey YouTube, Alex Connelly here. I'm coming at you guys with a video about why I hired virtual assistants. Anyway, basically, I had been kind of spinning the wheels of my business for a long time. I felt like I was running from one job I was bad at, such about it, and not really making progress.

0:33 A lot of people talk about this: if you want to succeed in business, you need to work on your business plan, take your business, you need to be basically helping it grow and not just doing the tasks that keep it afloat. So basically, I realized that I needed to have dedicated graphic design and editing if I was going to make progress.

Hiring Virtual Assistants

0:57 I'm capable of learning how to do that stuff and doing that stuff, but I'm not the best at it. And not only that, but if I'm doing that, I can't do anything else. So I can't focus on sales, I can't focus on trying to bring in more capital. So I hired Zai, and later on, I think the same day or the next day, I hired Thao. And both of them have absolutely blown my mind.

1:23 They're extremely positive to work with. I feel like I got employees and cheerleaders rolled into one. They're always encouraging me, understanding me. I feel like not only do they empathize with me, but they understand context and what I'm talking about a lot. They seem more familiar with American culture than, you know, a lot of foreigners that I encounter.

1:48 I think I'm just a part of this is because it was in the 40s and the 50s in the Spanish-American War. The United States actually helped free the Philippines from Spanish rule. And so this, you know, sort of creates this positive dynamic where I really appreciate it. Admire some of the things that we've talked about in terms of their culture, and they really appreciate it.

Affordability and Long-Term Prospects

2:10 Why are some things about America? Certainly, neither country is perfect, we have our problems. But I think that there's this cautious optimism. They'll be fair, and I think that it's really nice to work with people on the same wavelength.

2:27 One of the things that I've kind of been concerned about in America is like, man, I can't, like, you know, I can't afford to, as a small business owner, pay people enough to, you know, to care to the degree that I'm able to compensate people from the Philippines. And it's really wonderful so far.

2:44 I think it's been a couple months now, and I wasn't sure if I was to be able to hire them on for full-time work. We're moving in that direction. We're just studying more capital coming in. I think that it's going to be a really positive thing in the long term.

Team Growth and Productivity

3:00 You know, I'm still learning how to best present, you know, the workflow and how we can sort of organize our progress. But I'm definitely making more progress now than I ever have before. And I really think that this is going to be one of the biggest factors in whether or not I'm able to succeed in the business.

3:22 The fact that I'm able to bring long-term members because by myself, you know, I'm okay at some above-average intellect, work hard, but I only have, you know, 24 hours a day. And we can combine our efforts as a team. We have already 72 hours a day. We have three team members, and that's it's really exciting.

Future Content and Call to Action

3:45 I'm really looking forward to growing a team. Things will continue to go well. I just got to work hard and make sure that I stay on top of it. But, um, anyway, my name's Alex Connelly. If you enjoyed this video, if you enjoy my content, you know, hit the like button, hit the subscribe button.

4:04 I definitely comment. Let me know if you have questions about how you can hire me. It definitely want to make more content on the subject, but I kinda just wanted to do a little bit of an introductory video as something to give us sort of a taste of what, you know, I'm anyway. Thank you for watching until next time.
