Introduction to Bali and Gripp Sandals

0:02 Hey YouTube, Alex here and in today's video we are coming to you from Changangu, Bali. Bali is just an incredible place. I've been here for a short time now. Wow, the water's getting close. And we're joining my friend Chin. Chin has this really incredible brand. I haven't been sponsored to make this video, but I believe in supporting friends whenever you can. And so I wanted to showcase his sandals and give you an opportunity to check out his store, get to know him. It's a family business. It's an ecologically responsible, sustainable business.

Meeting Chin and Exploring Gripp Store

0:57 Hey, so we're here today with my friend Chin. Uh Chin, if you could introduce yourself and your brand. Hey, Alex. Uh thanks for having me here today. Um my name is Chinwan, but uh people in Bali or in Indonesia call me Pwan. Uh I think in in in Indonesia part means uh Mr. Mister or actually the full word for it is ba. Yeah. Um, and I'm one of the founders for uh Grip here.

1:21 So, Grip is uh it's a a sandal store and inside Grip, we also have coffee. Uh Jack's coffee. Come on, let's go in and have a look. It's really a a beautiful store. And uh for those who want to take a look around, you've got all kinds of different designs. You've got all kinds of different sizes. I think truly here there's there's something for everybody.

1:52 You also have a coffee shop here in the front uh where if somebody wants to have some coffee then we can show them real quick uh just to get started with your day. So the the idea is that um you know while your wife shops for sleepers the husband can actually sit down and enjoy coffee I guess.

2:12 Yeah. Yeah. But uh we have because I think we are in Changangu right now. We have we have actually 12 stores all in Bali, right? So but Changangu is near the beach. So this is very suitable for beachgoers and uh you know the slippers and the flipflops and we also have the the beach bags as well, the tote bags here. Let's have a look at it.

2:38 Yeah, I'd like to actually introduce this uh uh this flip-flops. It's actually one of a kind in in uh in the world, I would say. Yeah. Uh we are the the first to be able to do uh to combine four rubbers into one to make it into a colorful uh a colorful slippers or flip-flops.

3:03 Yeah. So there are four color rubber all combined into one which is a very uh new technology that we have invested in uh to make this possible right let's get it now these are all the other flip-flops that we have um and on the on the over here we also have uh the kind that some some people don't like, you know, in between the the toes.

3:37 And so we we have the slip-ons and also this this kind. Um we actually uh a bit different. Yeah. Yeah. It's I've never seen anything like this before.

3:54 Yeah. So this one is is very colorful. a lot. Some people say we at the bottom. These are for the ladies. The ladies. And actually, this model just just arrived uh last week. It's our new new color and it's been selling like hot cakes. A lot of ladies like this kind.

4:27 Yeah, I was I was telling Chin earlier, guys with a product like a sandal, you know that it's been around for thousands of years, but they've somehow figured out how to like innovate with this product. I've never seen any sandals like this and um it's just really cool to see something like you can you can take this with you. It's so um I don't know. It's just such a positive because a lot of people want to keep memories of Bali, but they want to be they want something they can use, right? This is something you can actually uh take home with you. You could wear it at home. You could remember your trip. Um it's it's just interesting to me because it's so functional, but it also serves a it's a souvenir. Yeah, it's it's a souvenir.

Gripp Sandals: Unique Design and Eco-Friendly Materials

5:12 Funny you say that because uh Grip is actually founded in Bali. Uh we our head hit head office is in Bali. Uh it's near the uh sunset uh sunset road. So it's actually something you can say oh it's Bali. It's a it's a souvenir from Bali. You can bring it home for your family members or your friends and tell them that hey been to Bali? I got you a uh sandals instead of just a a magnet. Right. Usually people instead of a magnet keychain or you know get them sandals with well I think with a magnet you know you put it in the fridge you forget about it. With this, people actually get a lot of value out of it.

5:48 They might live somewhere where they want to wear it all the time. What's And what's cool about it? Come, let me have a look here. What's cool about this is these are all 100% natural rubber. We are not using you're not using synthetic rubber. So synthetic rubber are made of petroleum, right? These are natural rubber from the tree and it's that's why it's very comfortable. Uh and it it lasts very long. The synthetic rubber tends to uh not last as long because it after a while it cracks and you know this the the the straps comes off and you know if it goes under the the sun for too long it's this this doesn't work. this everything is the strap is rubber the base is rubber so it's really comfortable and yeah I mean I personally feel like this uh your sandals here feel like really premium products like uh just the quality the build they're so sturdy I mean I think a lot of people can relate to getting a pair of sandals they fall apart the next day um but with these they the design is really nice they look cool um I think it's not easy even in 2025 to find a product that looks cool but it's also durable and we we've had customer who bought we've had customer who bought like uh a pair of sandals and then 3 years later they say oh it still works and can still wear it you know I mean it's a little bit worn out but they come back and say I want to buy another pair cuz well I guess it's good and bad for the business right you got to wait for 3 years for the customer to come.

7:30 Yeah. But uh yeah, we're really proud of uh the durability, the comfortness, and also the price. Uh it's like for this simple one, it's 119. 119 uh rupia or for the ladies one like this, it's 160 65,000 rupiah. That's about 10 to 12 US for my American audience. Very reasonable price.

7:54 M. Yep. Yep. That's right. And you can wear it for three years. No, it depends on how you wear it. Yeah. Um, what what made you want to get into sandals? Like Yeah. I'm just curious what kind of inspired you to make this type of product.

8:10 Yeah. Actually, the the idea came from my younger brother. He's also one of the founders uh for this. So like uh many years ago uh when he went to to Thailand to Bangkok, right? So one of his uh shoe you know uh broke so he needed something to wear. So he went to the the market and he bought a pair of 100% natural rubber uh slippers and it just came to him oh this is so comfortable and it's it's so good. So we decided to put a brand on it and start selling it.

8:45 Yeah. I think it's so cool too that it's like a family business also that it's a collaboration between um two really talented brothers and it's just it's such an uplifting like thing and and I I agree with you you know when you make a quality product like this you really are reducing waste from from you know people buying a pair of other brand you know are not off-brand let's say that just falls apart with this like you know you buy one pair it it lasts a really long Five.

9:14 This one for uh for kids. Yeah. Uh we we made this to to cuz we know the kid likes, you know, colorful stuff and and different kind of uh writing, right? And it's all also again 100% rubber, natural rubber, which means it's biodegradable and it's not an issue cuz it's natural rubber. It's not it's not synthetic.

9:42 Okay. So that's something I didn't know. I I learned something new today, guys. The natural rubber actually is biodegradable. And I think it's we I mean our factory is also certified the eco green. So when we manufacture, we make sure that it's not harmful for the environment. You know, it's also ISO uh 9,001 certified. And so that that factory itself it's uh it's is where we we manufacture our sandals even for the kids. It fits right into the I think the ethos of Bali to have eco-friendly products.

10:14 Like that's something that's really surprised me here is that of everywhere I've been in Southeast Asia, you definitely notice that there's this this idea of of environmentalism, you know, which is increasingly top of mind for a lot of people and they want to buy products or support businesses that are in line with that.

10:37 Yeah. Cuz Bali is a a beach town, right? So we, you know, we don't want to make we don't want to pollute the ocean with plastics and and and stuff like that, man. And I love too like your your I love too your packaging here is like minimal, you know? I know sometimes I bought uh sandals and there's a bag and there's another bag and there's another bag and here you got as little packaging as you can reasonably have and still maintain the integrity of the product. So that's something else I really like.

11:06 Mhm. Yeah, that's right. I mean we try not to I mean the the the Balines government as well, they they didn't they don't encourage usage of single plastic and all that. So we try to even our the bag that you you know where you carry it on it's made of casava. You know what's casava? Wow. So you put it in water. I think after an hour it becomes it's a starch. Yeah. Yeah.

Gripp Latte and Coffee Offerings

11:35 Did it change? So actually we you look at Jack's blend. It's it's different because we put uh a latte and a brown sugar. So when you put uh latte and brown sugar together, it's it's a bit different. It doesn't taste like a regular latte.

11:49 No. No. Yeah. Yeah. Because um it's it's it's something we found uh to be very uh uh what you call this wakes you up in the morning.

12:02 Yeah. On the other hand, like if you look at grip latte, grip latte actually is coffee with condensed milk, right? That's a very Southeast Asian thing, right? You you a lot of people outside Southeast Asia, they they drink coffee latte with a lot of milk and then coffee like fresh milk and coffee that it's too much milk. But if you put in condensed milk and coffee, you actually taste the the coffee uh better and you don't add sugar because condensed milk.

12:31 Don't add sugar because condensed milk is already sweet, right? So people outside Southeast Asia when they come in and they try the latte, they want something different, something new. So that's why a lot of people like Sydney. I know for myself, I've been wanting to come to Bali for years, and I think talking to you finally helped me make that decision and commit to a trip here.

12:54 But I know for some audience members, they're in the US, maybe they're in Europe, maybe they're pretty far away from Bali. How can they find your products if they're not in close proximity?

Purchasing Gripp Sandals Online and Worldwide Shipping

13:09 Yeah, so I've known you, Alex, for more than 10 years, I guess. It's been a long time. So, actually, it's good that you finally came to Bali and visited some of my outlets. But those who cannot, they can actually buy online. In Southeast Asia, you can get it from Shopee. I'll send you the link later for different countries' Shopee. But if it's outside Southeast Asia, you can buy from our website. I'll send you the link later, and we'll just ship it.

13:45 We even have a customer from Santa Monica. So they bought it, and then the shipping is more expensive than the slippers, but they love it so much they don't mind paying for it, right? So yeah, you can always buy it online. In and all around Indonesia, like the big cities, Surabaya, Manado, Makassar, we have our outlets there as well. So all over Indonesia, not only in Bali, Southeast Asia, and all over the world via online.
